Hemming a silk veil

To Hem or not to Hem that is the Question

Ladysilk’s rectangular veils are not hemmed. Experience has shown that the process of preparing, dying, washing and ironing the silk causes the threads to shrink and tighten eliminating fraying. You may lose one or two threads but that will be it. Many dancers prefer the way the silk moves without the added weight of a hem. Not having to spend time hemming allows us to sell our veils at a lower price.

All circular veils are hemmed because the way they are cut causes them to fray. The hem is very small and tight.
